Kuala Lumpur · scoped backend work

NodeWeave Consulting

Microservices boundaries, REST and event-driven APIs, and production hardening — without the myth that every rewrite needs a platform team.

Myth: one “API gateway” fixes coupling

A gateway can authenticate and route traffic, but it cannot hide unclear service ownership. We map domain boundaries first, then decide which endpoints belong in which deployable unit.

Typical deliverables include OpenAPI specs, idempotency keys for write paths, and contract tests that fail CI when a consumer breaks. That is programming work on your codebase — not a slide deck.

Engagements start with a written scope: repositories in scope, environments, and the interfaces you need stable for the next release train.

How a scoped engagement runs

  1. Interface inventory

We list synchronous HTTP handlers, async consumers, and shared schemas. You see which calls cross team lines today.

  2. Boundary proposal

We recommend service splits or merges with migration steps — including strangler patterns where a monolith still serves traffic.

  3. Implementation pairing

Senior engineers work in your repos: tracing, retries, backoff, and database transaction boundaries spelled in code review.

  4. Handover pack

Runbooks, load assumptions, and on-call notes so your team can operate what we shipped together.

Microservices are not free parallelism — they are explicit contracts. If the contract is vague, you have distributed monolith debt with extra network hops.

Myth: offshore-only teams are cheaper for API refactors

Timezone gaps show up as stalled pull requests when production incidents need the author online. We work from Kuala Lumpur with overlap hours you define in the statement of work.

On-site working sessions at Jalan Kuchai Lama are available for architecture workshops; day-to-day delivery is remote pair programming in your Git host.

Advisory sessions are billed separately from build sprints so you can buy a few hours of senior review without committing to a multi-month program.

Engagement shapes we actually staff

Architecture advisory

Half-day or full-day reviews of service maps, queue choices, and schema versioning strategy. Written findings within five business days.

From RM 4,500 per session (starting price; scope confirmed in writing).

Scoped build sprint

Four- to eight-week programming blocks focused on one bounded capability — for example, a new internal REST surface with auth middleware and integration tests.

From RM 28,000 per sprint (starting price; milestone payments in the contract).

Stabilisation retainer

Monthly hours for incident follow-ups, dependency upgrades, and performance profiling on existing microservices. No unlimited “on-call” promises — hours are capped and scheduled.

From RM 6,500 per month (starting price).

Questions we hear before signing

Do you take greenfield-only projects?

No. Most clients bring a running API with brittle integrations. We prefer repos with traffic because design choices must survive real failure modes.

Which languages do you implement?

We routinely ship Go, Java/Kotlin Spring services, and Node.js workers. The engagement letter lists stacks; we decline work outside those stacks rather than learn on your deadline.

Who owns the intellectual property?

Work product created in your repositories and paid milestones belongs to you, as stated in our terms. Pre-existing NodeWeave libraries are not bundled unless agreed.
